Workshop on implementing reforms on protection from unemployment and NSTVET in the Philippines

18 Aug 2015 to 20 Aug 2015
Manila, Philippines

Unemployment protection schemes provide income security to workers in the event of a loss of employment, while national system technical and vocational education and training (NSTVET) provide indispensable knowledge, skills and attitudes for a meaningful participation in the work force. By facilitating a more effective matching of workers with available jobs, improving the skills of the labour force and enhancing workers' employability, unemployment protection and NSTVET are important contributors of inclusive growth. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss proposals for reform to policies in both areas in the Philippines, and to learn from experiences in other countries in Asia and the Pacific. Participants to the workshop included key stakeholders, such as representatives from labor and employers, academia, think tanks and policy makers.
