Background

Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, with the support of ESCAP, is working with the provincial and regional governments on building the demographic capacity to implement inequality assessments of civil registration in Pakistan. A national inception workshop was conducted on 11th February 2022 in Lahore, inviting all the stakeholders, including local governments, planning and development, health, federal and provincial bureaus of statistics, NADRA, Ministry of Health, and academia from all provinces and regions of Pakistan. After thorough deliberations and group work, data sources that have the potential to contribute to the inequality assessment of Civil Registration and their availability were identified. The next step was to hold regional capacity-building workshops on demographic methods and the availability of data sources for implementing the inequality assessment, inviting participants from all provinces and regions. In this regard, the first regional capacity building workshop was organized on 25th and 26th March 2022 in Islamabad, having participants from the three regions including Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad Capital Territory. Participants from the Local Government, Health (public & private sector), Planning and Development, Academia, NADRA, and Bureaus of Statistics attended the workshop.
