APBF2023

 

ESCAP and the ESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN) with the support of the Hong Kong Environment and Ecology Bureau will jointly organize the APBF 2023 in Hong Kong. The theme of APBF 2023 is “An Asia Pacific Green Deal for Business: Driving the Green Transformation” Under this theme, participants at the APBF 2023 will have the opportunity to discuss the role of business in driving the Asia-Pacific Green Deal for Business. The Forum will discuss how businesses are decarbonizing their operations and scaling up sustainability initiatives in the region. Participants will also be introduced to the Green Deal digital platform and will hear and meet key decision makers, business leaders and emerging entrepreneurs committed to sustainable development across the Asia and Pacific region.

Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana was appointed Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on 13 September 2018.

Prior to joining ESCAP, Ms. Alisjahbana was Professor of Economics at Universitas Padjadjaran in Bandung, Indonesia, a position she assumed in 2005. She joined Universitas Padjadjaran as a lecturer in 1988. Since 2016, she has served as Director for the Center for Sustainable Development Goals Studies at Universitas Padjadjaran and Vice Chair of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences.

She also serves on the Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia - AIPI), the Forum of Statistics Community (Forum Masyarakat Statistik or Advisory Council of the Indonesian Statistics), the International Advisory Board of the Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies and Council Member of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI).

From 2009 to 2014, she was Minister of National Development Planning and the Head of the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), Indonesia. She served as Co-chair of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation from 2012 to 2014. From 2009 to 2014, she was Alternate Governor of the World Bank and Alternate Governor of the Asian Development Bank representing the government of Indonesia. In 2016, she was a member of the High Level Independent Team of Advisors to support the ECOSOC Dialogue on the longer term positioning of the United Nations Development System in the context of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.

Ms. Alisjahbana has been involved in various research projects and consultancies to the United Nations University/Institute for Advanced Study in Tokyo, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Australia, the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the European Commission, and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Ms. Alisjahbana earned her Bachelor degree in Economics and Development Studies from Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia, a Masters degree in Economics from Northwestern University, USA and a Ph.D in Economics from University of Washington, USA. She was awarded the Mahaputra Adipradana Order (Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana) from the Republic of Indonesia, honorary brevet from the Indonesian Navy and honorary flight wing from the Indonesian Air Force.

A champion for sustainable development, ESG investment, digital transformation and the Green Economy, Dr. Lam is Chair of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Sustainable Business Network (ESBN), and the ESBN Task Force on Sustainable and Inclusive Finance.  He is a member of the Governance Committee of the Hong Kong Growth Portfolio, and the Development Bureau Common Spatial Data Advisory Committee, of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and Convenor of the Panel of Advisors on Building Management Disputes of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Home Affairs Department. He is also a member of the Court of the City University of Hong Kong and the Belt and Road and Greater Bay Area Committee of the Hong Kong Trade and Development Council (HKTDC), Vice Chairman of Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC), Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Economic and Financial Issues of the World Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (WUSME), and President of Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation.

 

Dr. Lam earlier served as Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport, Hong Kong's digital technology flagship and global innovation hub.  He was a member of the Committee on Innovation, Technology and Re-Industrialization, the Sir Murray MacLehose Trust Fund Investment Advisory Committee, and the Central Policy Unit, of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.  A former member of the Hong Kong Bar, Dr. Lam is a Solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong, an Accredited Mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), a Fellow of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) Australia, the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM), an Honorary Fellow of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Australia, the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management and the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education, and a Distinguished Fellow of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Alliance (HKITDA).  In 2019, Dr. Lam was awarded by the Hong Kong Government a Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) for serving the public.

Before taking up his current role as Chairman, Guy was the Chief Executive of Swire Properties, responsible for the Company’s overall management and strategic direction.  He joined the Swire group in 1987 and has worked with the group in the Hong Kong SAR, Papua New Guinea, Japan, the United States, Vietnam, the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan region and the Middle East.

As a strong believer in sustainable development, Marjorie is a member of the High Level Steering Committee of UN Global Compact Action Platform on “Sustainable Infrastructure for the Belt and Road Initiative to accelerate the SDGs” and the Advisory Council of China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).

She is appointed as a member of the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers, a high-level advisory body to advise the Chief Executive of HKSAR on the strategic development of Hong Kong, and a representative of Hong Kong, China to APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). She also serves as Chairman of the Seoul International Business Advisory Council (SIBAC) and Executive Board Member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Marjorie is dedicated to promoting education and innovative technologies. Poman is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Regal Hotels Group. She is also the Founding Managing Partner of AlphaTrio Capital, an Asia-focused sustainable technology fund empowering green tech unicorns to provide disruptive solutions for the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Poman serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching sustainable business management and impact investing at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She founded the non-profit Institute of Sustainability and Technology with a mission to nurture ESG talent through executive education and advance the sustainability agenda through interdisciplinary research and international conferences.

Poman has been appointed as Member of Chief Executive’s Policy Unit Expert Group, Member of the Green Technology and Finance Development Committee, Council Member of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Honorary President of Hong Kong Federation of Women.

Poman is the only person in Hong Kong to receive both the “Outstanding Young Person of the World Award” and the “Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award”. She is also the first and only female Asian recipient of the “Oslo Business for Peace Award” by the Business for Peace Foundation in Norway.

Patrick Healy is Chair of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited and Swire Coca-Cola Limited. He is also Executive Director with board-level oversight of Sustainable Development at Swire Pacific Limited. Mr. Healy is also a Director and chairs the Philanthropy Council of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Limited. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Air China Limited.

Mr Healy has been with the Swire Group for 35 years. He joined John Swire & Sons in 1988 as a management trainee. After six years with the Group’s Industries Division in Hong Kong and Germany, he transferred to Swire Coca-Cola in 1994, where he worked in various roles in bottling operations in Beijing, Nanjing, Xian and Xiamen until 2012. He was General Manager of the Shaanxi bottler from 2001-2005 and General Manager of the Fujian bottler from 2005-2008. In July 2008 he was appointed CEO, HAECO Xiamen. Mr Healy returned to Hong Kong in 2012 to take up the role of Managing Director, Swire Coca-Cola. He became Chairman of Swire Coca-Cola and Cathay Pacific on 1st October and 6th November 2019 respectively.

Mr Healy is an Advisory Board Member of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) and a Member of the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong General Committee.

Mr Healy was born in 1965 and graduated in 1988 from St. John’s College, Cambridge University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages. He is married with three children.

Dr Kam joined the MTR Corporation Limited in 1995 and had held various management positions in the Operations, Projects and Mainland China and International Business Divisions. He was appointed as the CEO on 1 April 2019, and has been a Member of the Board since then.

As the CEO, Dr Kam is responsible for all performance of the Corporation and its group companies, both in and outside Hong Kong.

Dr Kam is a member of the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency Governing Council, the board of directors of The Community Chest of Hong Kong, the General Committee of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the General Committee of the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong and the Council of the Hong Kong Management Association.  He is also an Honorary Chairman of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).

Dr Kam qualified as a Chartered Engineer in the UK, a Chartered Fellow of CILT-HK and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and a Corporate Member of HKIE.  He holds a BSc in Civil Engineering and PhD in Mechanical Engineering. 

Dr Kam was appointed a Justice of the Peace and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Vocational Training Council, both in 2021.

She has been responsible for originating and subsequently managing multi-billion dollar regional equity and debt investment portfolios across the consumer services, infrastructure, and financial sectors. She has led and motivated multicultural and multidisciplinary teams to execute on IFC’s strategy and business globally. Ms. Lim has also served on the boards and advisory committees of private companies in various emerging markets.

Her global career in development finance has taken her to more than 30 countries including frontier markets such as Belarus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Rwanda, and many others.

Ms. Lim is passionate about climate change, inclusive growth, and innovation. She is based in Hong Kong and is fluent in English, Cantonese, and Bahasa.

Glenda is Group Head of Emerging Business and FIC at HKEX and a member of the Management Committee. Based in Hong Kong, she is responsible for driving the Group’s emerging and fixed income and commodities (FIC) businesses. This entails ESG and carbon markets, data services and digital assets on the emerging business side, and currencies, bond interest rates, OTC clearing, commodities and structured products on the FIC side.

Prior to joining HKEX in 2020, Glenda spent four years as COO of a macro hedge fund in Singapore. Glenda has spent most of her career with Goldman Sachs, whereby during her 23 years with the bank she was a managing director responsible for Asia Ex-Japan Operations, Global Listed Derivatives and OTC Clearing Operations, and Asia Securities and Clearing Operations. She also spent three years in Currency Options Trading and Listed Derivatives Business Development.

Mr. Leong Cheung joined the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in July 2023 as the Chief Strategy Officer of the Exchange Fund Investment Office.  Before joining the HKMA, Mr. Cheung was the Executive Director of Charities & Community at The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). In this capacity, he was also the founding co-chair of the Hong Kong Chapter of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN).

Prior to joining the HKJC, Mr. Cheung was the Operating Partner of Bain Capital. Before that he was the Managing Director of Global Sourcing & Supply Chain at Esquel Group, the founder and CEO of an education focused internet venture, and a senior consultant at the Boston Consulting Group.

Mr Cheung graduated BBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Tasos, is part of UBS Group Chief Sustainability Office and is the Co-Head of the APAC Sustainable Finance Office whose objective is to enable business divisions ESG capabilities and support UBS clients ESG/SI agenda.  Tasos leads UBS's global Carbon working group and is responsible for client engagements in transition, decarbonization and impact, he has represented UBS in the Taskforce for Voluntary Carbon Offset Markets and the development of Carbonplace, a carbon credit settlement infrastructure platform. He co-ordinates a number of UBS efforts in Carbon product development and has an extensive network with carbon product developers, buyers and infrastructure players and regularly advises regulators in this topic.

Currently serving the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, as Special Secretary, (Secretary equivalent), in Logistics division, she is in charge of implementation of Government of India’s (GoI) flagship programme for infrastructure planning – PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

Earlier, from 1993-2008, she served in districts of the State of Andhra Pradesh in development and welfare programmes and later at the state level in various positions.

Thereafter she was posted in the Ministry of Finance in GoI and subsequently at the Indian Mission in Beijing, PRC, as Head of the Economic Wing from 2011-2014.

Upon completion of her tenure, she served as Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, and later as Principal Secretary, Department of Transport, Road & Building, from 2014-2017, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

While on deputation at the UNICEF, India, from 2017-2019, she handled several governance projects for India.

As Additional Secretary, DPIIT, she facilitated important work related to investment outreach, including the National Single Window System for investors. During the second wave of COVID in 2021, she was tasked to manage the critical oxygen distribution program of the Government of India.

Ms. Dawra holds Masters and M.Phil degrees in Economics, and two Master’s degrees in Business Management and Public Policy, respectively.

Currently she is also serving on the Board of National Bank for Financing Infrastructure & Development (NaBFID).

Mr Ho assumed the post of the Commissioner for Belt and Road on 1 September 2023. He is leading the Belt and Road Office under the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau to formulate overall strategy and spearhead policy in taking forward Hong Kong's full participation in the Belt and Road Initiative, and to promote the connections with relevant sectors, thereby strengthening Hong Kong's role as a functional platform in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Before joining the Government, Mr Ho was a registered architect in Hong Kong who had held senior positions in an international architectural practice for the past ten years and was appointed Chair of the firm from 2020. He had led a number of Belt and Road related projects involving smart cities development and green buildings construction. As the Convenor of Hong Kong Trade Development Council Belt and Road Committee Professional Services Working Group and the Co-convenor of the Belt and Road Working Group of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce,  Mr Ho had partnered with different stakeholder groups, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative through participation in seminars and mission trips, etc.

Mr Ho has been representing Hong Kong, China on the APEC Business Advisory Council since 2017 and has good exposure in representing Hong Kong at different fora, locally and internationally.

Ms. Tientip Subhanij is the Chief of Sustainable Business Network of the United Nations ESCAP. She has over 20 years of experience in macroeconomics, the financial sector, international trade and investment issues. Throughout her career, she has served in several key managerial and professional positions in academia, government and the private sector, including the Bank of Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Bank for International Settlements and South East Asian Central Banks. At the United Nations ESCAP, she has managed an extensive portfolio of work on climate finance, SME financing and infrastructure investment for various countries in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. She provided advisory services on sustainable capital market development and successfully helped the Royal Government of Bhutan issue its first-ever sovereign bond in 2020. She manages two ESCAP networks, namely the Infrastructure Financing and Public-Private Partnership Network of Asia and the Pacific and the ESCAP Sustainable Business Network, where she led several reforms, including InfraPPPnet web portal and the Asia-Pacific Green Deal for Business. She has published widely in macroeconomics, financial markets, international finance, business and investment. Ms. Subhanij holds an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
