New UN report highlights widening disparities, increased vulnerabilities in region

Launch of Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2022

As we mark the second anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic, Asia and the Pacific continues to grapple with its severe socio-economic consequences. These have increasingly coincided with natural and human-made disasters. Even as governments in the region took action to help those most in need and respond to the ongoing crises, the latest data indicates that vulnerability has increased, and huge gaps persist among different population groups. Amid these challenges, progress in the region has slowed down and with each passing year, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are further out of reach.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is hosting a virtual regional launch and press briefing for its Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report 2022 on 17 March at 10.30AM – 12.00PM (UTC+7). The analysis in the 2022 edition has given special priority to those who are furthest left behind. The report focuses on the intersection of key development challenges with population characteristics, such as age, gender, ethnicity, health, location, migratory status and income.
