The workshop was organized by ESCAP Statistics Division and UNSD with support from BPS Statistics Indonesia, from 11 to 14 June 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The objective of the workshop was to explain and raise awareness for the use of mobile phone data in the statistical production process, in particular for the compilation of tourism, migration and population statistics. During the workshop, participants got more familiar with mobile phone data, how these data can be pre-processed and how statistical concepts can be operationalized in patterns of mobile phone location data. An overview was also given of the work of the task team on mobile phone data of the UN Global Working Group on Big Data.
