Within the context of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+25 Review, which was held from 27 - 29 November 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, ESCAP was conducting a North and Central Asian dialogue on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in the margins of this Conference. The dialogue served as a forum for policy dialogue, capacity building and networking for stakeholders from relevant key ministries and national women’s machineries in the North and Central Region to discuss the specific ways in which key issues to advance gender equality – including women’s economic empowerment, women’s decision-making and leadership, violence against women and girls and financing for gender equality – were addressed holistically in order to develop forward-looking strategies and contribute to efforts towards gender equality, poverty reduction and economic growth in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. Specific objectives of the dialogue include:
• Enhance awareness of the importance of participatory gender-responsive approaches to the design, implementation and monitoring of measures that advance gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls
• Share lessons learned and discuss the prevalent challenges and national priorities for advancing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls
• Identify the necessary actions and good practices to improve the enabling environment for women and girls in the North and Central Asia region, including cross-sectoral measures and institutional coordination, public-private partnerships and active engagement of women’s associations and women beneficiary groups into consultative and decision-making processes
