Throughout the ASEAN region, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are struggling to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 recession. The difficult business environment poses unique risks to these small businesses, and the competitive environment makes them vulnerable in ways that larger entities are not.
ESCAP, UNCTAD and the ASEAN Secretariat are partnering to host the “Regional Policy Dialogue in cooperation with ASEAN: the role of Competition Policy in supporting MSMEs economic recovery in the post COVID19 crisis.” This event will be conducted with the participation of ASEAN members of ESCAP’s new Asia-Pacific MSME Policymakers Network
The hosting institutions are holding this event to examine the state of competition law and competition policy throughout the ASEAN member states, with further reference to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants will discuss the current concerns of MSMEs and their interface with competition policy in these countries, and explore the role competition policy can play in contributing to the resurgence of a vibrant MSME sector.
