Excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen,

Building on our long-standing collaboration, we are delighted to have partnered with the Royal Thai Government and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation in organizing this week’s Global South-South Development Expo 2022.

Over the course of the past three days, we have had a packed programme of fruitful and results-oriented discussions. The three high-level Leadership Round Tables, 11 Thematic Solution Forums, 12 side events and various virtual events offered ample opportunity for engaging in exchanges of experiences and expertise.

I was pleased to note the vibrant and engaging panel discussions with delegations sharing their views, experiences and examples, but also challenges, and outlining the possible solutions.

The organization of the global and the regional DG Forums for South-South and Triangular Cooperation gave the DGs from cooperation agencies of developing countries the opportunity to link national, regional and global perspectives on policies, strategies and tools for South-South partnerships.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Competition gave young talents from developing countries the space to promote South-South cooperation by sharing existing innovations with relevant partners, entrepreneurs and audiences from other developing countries, seeking options to replicate or scale up these solutions.

In addition to the thematic sessions, the GSSD Expo 2022 offered space for partners to share and exchange ideas during the physical exhibition here in Bangkok as well as through the virtual exhibition space, showcasing many successful examples of South-South cooperation from more than 60 partners.

Over the last few days, we were able to benefit from the wisdom and experience of an excellent mix of experts, which included the South-South cooperation policymakers and practitioners from several member States, and experts from think tanks, research institutes, civil society organizations as well as from the United Nations.

Many efforts are already underway within the UN system to leverage South-South and triangular cooperation. We seek to support and facilitate policy dialogues, provide technical assistance and normative support, forge collaborative alliances, broker knowledge, develop multi-stakeholder partnerships and mobilize development finance from all sources.

The BAPA+40 outcome document reaffirms the key role of United Nations system entities in this endeavour.

We at ESCAP look forward to working with you to seize all the positive outcomes of the GSSD Expo to advance  South-South and triangular cooperation in support of the 2030 Agenda.

In closing, I would like to thank our co-organizers, the Royal Thai Government and UN Office for South-South Cooperation for their excellent collaboration in the preparation of this Expo.

I would also like to thank all participants for their active contributions and look forward to seeing you at the next Expo.

Thank you.
