Leading up to the COP26 Summit in November 2021, the infographic summarizes the mitigation and adaptation plans in Central Asia countries, as well as the policy frameworks that guide these plans and strategies.

All five Central Asian countries ratified the Paris Agreement and submitted their first nationally determined contributions. Since their ratification of the Paris Agreement, the countries have made significant progress in integrating climate issues and clean energy transition into their sectoral planning. However, given Central Asia’s acute environmental risks, significant efforts and investments need to be made to reach the Paris Agreement goals.

To meet the emission reduction targets set out, Central Asia countries need to improve energy efficiency and integrate green economy strategies, especially in agriculture and industrial processes. The energy sector is the largest greenhouse gases emitter in the subregion.
