The Third Ministerial Conference on Space Applications for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific will be co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Royal Thai Government, on Wednesday 10 October 2018 at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand.
Recognising that space science, technological innovations and their applications will have an increasingly significant role in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, the Ministerial Conference is being convened with a universal vision to enhance regional cooperation and consider concrete steps towards expanding the access to, and use of space applications for sustainable development.
The Conference is expected to provide guidance for concrete action under the priority thematic areas of the Asia-Pacific Regional Roadmap for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ESCAP stands ready to support member States in harnessing these means to help reach the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
The major outcomes of the Conference are expected to be the following:
• A Ministerial Declaration, reflecting the policy decisions of Governments of the member of the Commission regarding regional cooperation in space applications for sustainable development;
• An Asia-Pacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for Sustainable Development (2018 – 2030).
