Sri Lanka National Workshop to Test and Apply the Youth Policy Toolbox
ESCAP - in collaboration with the National Youth Services Commission of the Sri Lankan Government and the Foundation for Strengthening Human Skill - convened the Sri Lanka National Workshop to Test and Apply the Youth Policy Toolbox, in Colombo, on 20 and 21 June 2017. The Workshop, one of three in Asia and the Pacific under the interregional project “Strengthening the capacity of Governments in ESCAP, ECA and ESCWA to respond to the needs of youth in formulating inclusive and sustainable development policies”, was attended by over 40 participants. These included government officials, representatives of civil society organizations and youth-led organizations, and reporters from the media. A series of presentations, group work and interactive plenary sessions shed light on challenges youth in Sri Lanka faced, particularly in the context of the school-to-work transition, and how to address these. In addition, lessons from India, Nepal and Pakistan were shared, and feedback was provided on ways in which the learning component of the Youth Policy Toolbox and its dissemination could be enhanced.
