Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Development in South Asia
As a long-standing partner of the South Asia Economic Summit, which is a prominent platform for debate on and analysis of key issues and challenges facing South Asia, ESCAP will take part in the 8th South Asia Economic Summit (SAES) to be held on 7-8 December 2015 in Islamabad. The SAES will convene this year under the overarching theme ‘Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Development in South Asia’. ESCAP will contribute to several sessions of the Summit, presenting key policy priorities for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in South Asia.
The SAES has been organized every year since 2008 in different locations across South Asia and provides critical inputs to the SAARC Summits. The SAES are organized by five think tanks based in South Asia. This year, the SAES is being organized by the Islamabad-based Sustainable Development Policy Institute and will take place back-to-back with the 18th Sustainable Development Conference to be held from 8 to 10 December in Islamabad, on the topic of ‘Security Peace and Prosperity’. Both events are held ahead of the 19th SAARC Summit to be hosted by Pakistan in early 2016.
