Ocean Cities Knowledge Exchange: Promoting Nature Based Solutions in Pacific Island Urban Settlements
Regional Knowledge Exchange
UN ESCAP, jointly with the Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (PACE-SD), based at the University of the South Pacific (USP), is convening a new partnership with Pacific island developing States to develop an integrated policy approach for ocean focussed, climate responsive urban development adapted to island systems. This event will bring together Pacific participants representing a broad cross-section of national and local government, non-state actors, regional institutions and academia, to exchange knowledge and experience of urban development challenges in Pacific islands. This knowledge exchange will contribute to the development of a series of policy briefs on key themes for Pacific cities and will inform an integrated ‘ocean cities policy guide’ to identify opportunities to bridge the gap between the built and natural environment in island settlements.
