Improving gender statistics for advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment: an inter-regional workshop
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), together with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) are implementing a project entitled “Interregional Cooperation to Strengthen National Capacities to Measure Progress in Achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment” (2013-2016). The project, supported by the United Nations Development Account, is designed to respond to repeated calls for more and better gender-based statistics and indicators. The ultimate aim of the project is to enhance the capacity of national institutions to produce data and statistics necessary to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.
As the project activities have been completed and the project is coming to an end, an inter-regional workshop will be organized to facilitate the evaluation of project accomplishments and the cross-fertilization of achievements, experiences and lessons learned among countries that were key partners in the project (or project countries) with the aim of formulating recommendations on future actions for improving gender statistics at the national and regional levels. Moreover, the workshop will aim to identify opportunities to link the project’s expected accomplishments and activities to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
More specifically, the objectives of the workshop are to:
I. Share achievements of project countries and feature project outputs;
II. Exchange experiences gained and lessons learned from the project;
III. Formulate recommendations on ways forward to ensure sustainability of project impacts within the project countries, in light of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
IV. Evaluate accomplishments of the project.
