High-level Policy Dialogue on Safeguarding the Multilateral Trading System for Sustainable Development

2 Nov 2017
Bangkok, Thailand

The ESCAP secretariat has supported its member States in preparation for all major WTO ministerial conferences by organizing regional consultations. These consultations highlight critical issues and identify those elements of the negotiations which are the most important for developing countries, especially least developed countries. In the run-up to the Eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference in Argentina in December 2017, the ESCAP High-Level Dialogue will be held in Bangkok in the morning of 2 November 2017 with the objective to better understand the consequences of a weakening of the multilateral trading system for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Dialogue will be run as a Davos-style discussion.

Panelists are expected to be senior officials (at the level of trade minister) from countries in the region, eminent academics and development practitioners, business leaders and representatives of relevant international organizations, including WTO. The Dialogue is open for attendance by all those taking part in the Fifth Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Week.

This event is being organized as part of the Fifth Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Week, 30 October-3 November, 2017.
