The Global Meeting for the Ninth Tranche of the Development Account project “Enhancing the Contribution of Preferential Trade Agreements to Inclusive and Equitable Trade” is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), as well as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). It will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 14 July 2017.
The event brings together experts from each of the three regions where national training workshops have been held to share experiences and regional best practices on how preferential trade agreements can lead to more inclusive outcomes. The sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss how experiences across the different regions were found to be similar or to differ in their efforts to liberalize trade and investment. Particular attention will be paid to preferential trade agreements, highlighting the impacts on issues such as enhanced welfare opportunities, positive impacts on gender equality, and enhanced contribution to general welfare, in particular for excluded groups. Furthermore, the event will discuss how the outputs generated by the project can continue to support countries in their liberalization experiences in the future.
