Expert Group Meeting on Energy Integration for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific

Organized by the ESCAP secretariat and hosted by the Government of the Russian Federation, the 2015 Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Energy Integration for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific will be held in Irkutsk, Russian Federation, from 14-16 September, 2015. This meeting will enable experts to share insights and experiences regarding the regional energy sector's future development and will be comprised of four main sessions:

1. Current energy scene and emerging energy trends impacting energy security and the sustainable use of energy in Asia and the Pacific.
2. Progress review of the Asian and Pacific Energy Forum (APEF) Plan of Action and SE4ALL initiative.
3. Promotion of transboundary power trade to increase energy security, realize efficiencies, and enable broader integration of variable renewable energy.
4. Increasing access to modern energy services through strengthened policies, institutions, and programs.

To implement ESCAP resolution 70/9 Supporting the Implementation of the Outcomes of the first Asian and Pacific Energy Forum, which was adopted at the 70th session of the Commission, the secretariat launched the Asia Pacific Energy Portal and the first edition of the Regional Trends Report on Energy for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific in May 2015 during the 71st session of the Commission. In pursuance to the implementation of the resolution, the secretariat will prepare the Regional Trends Report 2016 edition, drawing from the experiences and case studies shared during this EGM, with focus on transboundary power trade and energy access.
