ESCAP in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Maldives, is conducting a half a day meeting on May 8, 2023 at the NDMA office. The first part of this meeting will concentrate on a Mid-term Review of the project progress and findings of the SDG-funded joint project on “Strengthening National and Subnational Capacity for Sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in the Maldives” in Male, Maldives. Representatives from key stakeholder ministries and departments such as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology (MECCT), the Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (MNPHI), Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS), Local Government Authority (LGA) and United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) are planned to participate and provide their feedback on the progress of the project and its application in their respective sectors.
The second half of the meeting consists of a capacity-building session with an introduction to the prototype of the country-based decision support system for climate-related disasters developed under the ESCAP Risk and Resilience Portal (RRP). The session will focus on training the decision-makers on the tools and their applications of the DSS for risk-informed planning.
