The Ministerial Conference on Transport held in December 2021 encouraged implementation of the regional approach on enhancing shift towards sustainable freight transport. To support its implementation, general principles on enhancing shift towards sustainable freight transport were considered by the Committee on Transport at its seventh session held in November 2022.
The Committee on Transport in its Decision 5 endorsed, in principle, the draft elements of the guiding principles for sustainable freight transport in Asia and the Pacific as contained in the annex to the ESCAP document (ESCAP/CTR/2022/3) to further promote freight sustainability in the region.
The Committee further requested the secretariat to organize consultations among members and associate members to finalize the guiding principles. Accordingly, a consultation meeting is being organized based in a HYBRID format on 28 February 2023 with objective to finalize the guiding principles.
