25 May 2021

Virtual event, 12:00 - 13:00 hours (Bangkok time), Bangkok, Thailand

We are living through a decisive moment. The COVID-19 pandemic’s devasting impact is reaching every corner of the world. Science, technology and innovation are critical to responding, recovering and rebuilding.

Yet, to recover from this massive shock and build back better, innovation policies are in need of innovation. To meet the ambitions of the SDGs, we need to build technological and innovation capabilities that can solve the pressing economic, social and environmental challenges of our time. This requires innovation policies that go beyond economic imperatives to include social and environmental goals and integrating inclusive dimensions into these policies to leave no one behind.

Extraordinary times require extraordinary policies, actions and collaborations. To build back better, next generation innovation policies must focus on what truly matters, bring transformative change, and address the legitimate concerns of diverse stakeholders.

The inaugural InnovaTea sought the audience's inputs to develop the United Nations Economic and Social Commission’s (ESCAP) vision to harness technology and innovation to build back better.

The audience had the opportunity to hear about ESCAP’s emerging vision as well as the observations of diverse stakeholders on this vision.

The audience also had the opportunity to share insights that help inform ESCAP’s focus and approach to harness technology and innovation for inclusive and sustainable development.

The session was held virtually, on 25 May 2021, 12:00 - 13:00 hours Bangkok time

The session record is available here.
