The purpose of the meeting was to discuss accelerating climate-smart trade and investment for sustainable development based on the new Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2021 on this topic, jointly prepared by ESCAP, UNCTAD and UNEP. Climate action has been designated by the UN Secretary General as both a priority and a driver of the decade. To address the worthening climate crisis, there is a need for trade and investment policies that can more directly support reducing GHG emissions, while preserving trade and investment as key engines of growth and sustainable development.
