The Trans-Asian Railway in the ASEAN and Indo-China Subregion is one of four corridor studies undertaken by UN ESCAP as part of the Asian Land Transport Infrastructure Development (ALTID) project. The report presents the findings of a study for developing and making the Trans-Asian Railway in the countries of the ASEAN area and in what might broadly be identified as the Greater Mekong Region. The railways concerned by the study mostly conform to narrow (1,000 mm or 1,067 mm) track gauge standards with emphasis on light track structures, light axle loads, slow speed and small vehicle profiles. The study focuses on the requirements for, and obstacles to, international transport of containers by rail.
