High-Level UN meeting on achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls in Asia-Pacific
23 February 2018, Bangkok, Thailand
The ‘Asia-Pacific Regional High-Level Meeting for CSW62: Challenges and Opportunities in Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Rural Women and Girls’ will be held at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok on 23 February 2018.
Rural women and girls continue to face structural barriers that impact their human rights and prevent them from achieving their full potential. Adequate living standards, women’s economic empowerment, land rights, food security, violence, health care, quality education, resilience and preparedness to climate change, disasters and conflicts are among the main cross-cutting challenges faced by rural women and girls in Asia-Pacific.
In this regard, the meeting will bring together Member States to identify good practices and develop policy recommendations to address these challenges, and promote the voice of Asia-Pacific at the global discussions taking place at the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) in New York from 12 to 23 March 2018.
The meeting is being organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, in collaboration with the World Food Programme Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (WFP) and other members of the Asia-Pacific UN Regional Coordination Mechanism Thematic Working Group on Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (TWG-GEEW).
