EXPO-2017 - Theme: Energy for Sustainable Development, 10-13 June 2017, Astana, Kazakhstan

ESCAP will showcase solutions towards energy transition in Asia and the Pacific at EXPO 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan from 10 June. Hosted for the first time in Central Asia under the theme ‘Future Energy’ this year’s EXPO will run until 10 September and is expecting up to 5 million visits.

Energy plays a crucial role in global economic growth and underpins all areas of development. In Asia and the Pacific, over 420 million people lack access to electricity and an additional 2.1 billion people rely on traditional biomass for cooking and heating. Addressing these energy challenges is an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.

ESCAP will bring regional perspectives to a series of events at the EXPO including the Energy Ministerial Conference and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development, along with a UN Day dialogue and exhibit, where ESCAP will present the Asia Pacific Energy Portal - a knowledge tool offering interactive data, policy information, and infrastructure maps covering 58 countries.
