The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Green Technology Center - Korea (GTC-K) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Seoul today, reaffirming joint efforts to promote sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region through science, technology and innovation.

The MoU will support countries in the region to bridge economic, social and environmental gaps, particularly through facilitating green technology cooperation and diffusion, and enhance regional and multilateral cooperation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the signing ceremony, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP Dr. Shamshad Akhtar said, “This renewal of the MoU reaffirms the commitment between ESCAP and GTC-K in supporting countries in the Asia-Pacific region to promote sustainable development based on mutual interest and shared values.”

Dr. In-Hwan Oh, President of GTC-K added, “The Green Technology Center is delighted to partner with ESCAP in enhancing green technology cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region. By connecting developed and developing countries for the growth and diffusion of green technology and strategies, we look forward to further strengthening our partnership in order to build a healthy and sustainable future for all.”

Under the agreement, both ESCAP and GTC-K will build the capacity of stakeholders in developing countries to support green technology transfers, and implement national strategies for science, technology and innovation.
