17-20 November 2014, Bangkok, Thailand

The year 2015 will mark the twentieth anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which was adopted by the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995 and has since served as the global agenda for achieving gender equality and women's empowerment. The pinnacle event of the regional 20-year review of the Beijing Platform for Action is the Asian and Pacific Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: Beijing+20 Review, which will be convened by ESCAP in cooperation with UN Women, at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 17 to 20 November 2014.

The Conference will bring together leaders, ministers and senior officials from ESCAP member States, as well as representatives from inter-governmental organizations, UN bodies and civil society, to review progress, remaining challenges and priorities in the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action. It is anticipated that the Conference will adopt a ministerial declaration reflecting commitment for accelerating implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in Asia-Pacific, which will serve as the regional input to the global 20-year review, ensuring a strong Asia-Pacific voice for the realization of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
