Workshop on Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asian and Pacific Cities
ESCAP hosted the “Workshop Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asian and Pacific Cities” on 30 November – 1 December 2016 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
Building upon the outcomes of the third session of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD-3), the sixth Asian Pacific Urban Forum (APUF-6) and the Seoul International Forum on Urban Policy for the SDGs, the Workshop brought together over 110 local and national government representatives and other key stakeholders to discuss the centrality of cities for achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop also allowed taking stock of the outcomes of Habitat III and discussing the synergies between the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda The Workshop facilitated dialogue on the opportunities for collaborative action and knowledge sharing in support of localization of the 2030 Agenda, and showcased examples of urban policies and innovative initiatives already being undertaken by cities on various areas related to the SDGs. At the workshop, ESCAP launched the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform, developed together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and CityNet, aiming to promote and support regional knowledge sharing and cooperation for sustainable urban development.
The Workshop was held during the “ESCAP SDG Week” which took place from Monday 28 November to Friday 02 December 2016.
