SPECA Project Working Group on Transport and Border Crossing (PWG-TBC), 18th session

2 May 2013 to 3 May 2013
Almaty, Kazakhstan

The 18th session of the SPECA Project Working Group on Transport and Border Crossing (PWG-TBC) is taking place this year in Almaty on 2-3 May. This is a great opportunity to witness how the key issues in the field of transport related to infrastructure development, transit transport and cross border movements could be better addressed. These issues rank particularly high on the agenda of the central Asian landlocked countries as they remain an important constraint for a greater integration of the region with the global economy. Against this background, the PWG-TBC has proven to be an effective platform for regional cooperation and knowledge sharing since its launch in 1998. It has particularly benefited from the strong and leading role played by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan as well as from the joint support of the United Nations secretariats of ESCAP and ECE. Other actors such as the Research Institute on Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan (NIITK) and the Islamic Development Bank have also significantly contributed to the success of the project working group for many years.
