ESCAP’s Environment and Development Division held a South-East Asia Subregional Training Workshop on Integration of the SDGs in National Planning on 13 September 2018 in the UNCC, Bangkok, Thailand as a per-learning session to the South-East Asia Forum on Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (11-12 September 2018).
The workshop provided an introduction to the ESCAP’s methodology for assessing the interlinkages “Integration of the SDGs into National Planning” and pathways for integration of the SDGs with national policies, and facilitated group work on both the application of the integration and interlinkages methodology and entry points for stakeholder engagement in policy and planning. The participants were introduced to tools of the ESCAP’s e-learning course during a hands-on session and were enrolled into a four-weeks e-learning seminar.
The workshop materials including presentations from the facilitators are provided hereby.
The e-learning course on the Integration of the SDGs into National Planning was developed by UN ESCAP to support policymakers and sustainable development practitioners in developing strategies and plans to implement the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals were developed through an inclusive and comprehensive process that considered diverse sector-based specializations and perspectives. The e-learning course provides a comprehensive methodology based on the interconnectedness and other systems thinking tools to explore and better understand how the 3 dimensions of sustainable development—economic prosperity, social justice, and environmental protection are interlinked and integrated into one “indivisible whole.”
The course consists of three modules, which give insights on the importance of the integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development and provide further guidance on available tools and their application for policy making and implementation.
