Sixteenth Session of the Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction for Asia (FOCRAII) 2020

7 May 2020
Beijing, China

Regional Climate Outlook Forums (RCOFs) deliver consensus-based, user-relevant climate outlook products in real time through regional cooperation and partnership to reduce climate-related risks and support sustainable development for the coming season in sectors of critical socioeconomic significance for the region in question. The Forum involves climate scientists, disaster risk reduction experts and representatives from other user sectors for the identification of impacts and implications and the formulation of response, adaptation and resilience strategies. As one of RCOFs in Asia, the Forum on Regional Climate Monitoring, Assessment and Prediction for Regional Association II (FOCRAII) covers all the countries in Asia, most being Members of WMO Regional Association II.

FOCRAII activities are coordinated by the Beijing Climate Centre (BCC) of China Meteorological Administration (CMA), and the 16th session of the Forum is co-organized virtually by BCC, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and ESCAP. Facilitating sharing of experience and knowledge of members of RAII, the Forum will review the progress made in climate monitoring and prediction with a specific focus on the challenges and opportunities in seasonal to inter-annual climate prediction methodologies and systems unique to the RAII region, and discuses climate impacts and services.

ESCAP’s Asia-Pacific Disaster Resilience Network (APDRN) is a network of the networks that includes RCOFs in partnership with the WMO to strengthen regional platform for multi-hazard early warning systems.
