Regional Workshop - "United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF): A process to mainstream the maritime sector"
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), cooperation with Ministry of Transport of Thailand, are organizing a Regional workshop - " United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework: A process to mainstream the maritime sector".
The workshop will focus on the general principles which Maritime Administrations and Authorities in Asia should take into account in order to mainstream the maritime sector in the United Nations Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) in support of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The objective will aim to strengthen the contacts among the different stakeholders in the region and to highlight the value of the contribution of the maritime industry, including inland waterways and domestic voyages, in addressing the SDGs. To this end, the following is within the scope of the workshop.
- Introduce the basic concepts of the UNSDAF system;
- Share experiences and tools which have been developed by the United Nations Development Group (UNDG), the Regional Coordinator of the United Nations Development Group for Asia and Pacific, and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific and other participants in the process to motivate the maritime administrations in getting involved in the process;
- Highlight the value of the contribution which the maritime industry can provide to nations in addressing the SDGs and the importance of safety, security and protection of marine environment in shipping, including inland waterways and domestic voyages in this context; and
- Exchange views and ideas on the key components relevant to the sustainable development and create a base for collaboration in the region.
