Regional workshop on cooperation and information sharing for flood risk reduction and extreme weather events in Central Asia

The Regional Workshop on “Cooperation and Information Sharing for Flood Risk Reduction and Extreme Weather Events in Central Asia” was organized from 24 to 25 November 2011 by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) hosted by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Workshop was organized as the second meeting of the project entitled “Strengthening capacity to forecast extreme weather events in Asia” funded by the Russian Federation.

The objectives of the workshop were to exchange knowledge including sound practices, promote regional cooperation for the improved management of flood-related disaster risks taking into consideration extreme weather events, and discuss strategies and a framework for cooperation for flood risk reduction including recommendations and ways forward in this regard.
