The regional seminar on IIAs and sustainable development discussed current developments and challenges in investment rule making, and possible ways for improving the IIA system and its governance to ensure it better supports achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Targeted at investment policy makers and investment promotion officials from the region, and open to NGOs, academia and private sector, the seminar provided insights on how IIAs can better support sustainable development, and what is happening in the region.
The seminar was followed on 2 December by the 6th Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Network.
Opening remarks from Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the ESCAP, can be found at: http://www.unescap.org/speeches/opening-remarks-regional-seminar-interna...
