Outreach Event on the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report

17 Aug 2015 to 18 Aug 2015
Bangkok, Thailand

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and ESCAP will organize an outreach event on the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report from 17 to 18 August, 2015 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. This event will bring together a range of stakeholders from local government entities, non-governmental organizations, academies of science, business groups and/or educational institutions from Southeast Asian countries and discuss the findings of IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). AR5 is the world’s most comprehensive evaluation of climate change, its potential impacts and the choices we have for responding to it. Released in four sections between September 2013 and November 2014, AR5 provides leaders in the public and private sectors with a scientific basis for developing strategies to address climate change. Most importantly, AR5, particularly the final Synthesis Report will be the leading scientific document to inform negotiations at the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 21) in December 2015, at which negotiators will attempt to reach a global climate agreement. The event is expected to generate new insights about subregional aspects of climate change and the policy response options.
