North-East Asia Low Carbon City Platform (NEA-LCCP) Session, International Conference for National Urban Policy (NUP)

14 Dec 2015 to 15 Dec 2015
Incheon, Republic of Korea

ESCAP East and North-East Asia Office, serving as the Secretariat of the North-East Asian Subregional Programme for Environmental Cooperation (NEASPEC), hosted a session titled the North-East Asia Low Carbon City Platform (NEA-LCCP) during the International Conference for National Urban Policy (NUP). The first International Conference for National Urban Policy was jointly organized by UNHABITAT, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS), ESCAP and others under the theme of moving toward smarter and greener cities. North-East Asia has a clear need to address its increasing rate of urbanization as cities are key consumer of resources. Cities, therefore, have a critical role in enhancing sustainability by adopting a low carbon city (LCC) approach. All North-East Asian countries at several Senior Officials Meetings of NEASPEC have supported the idea of strengthening subregional cooperation for promoting LCCs. In this context, the North-East Asia Low Carbon City Platform Session of the NUP Conference reviewed the current state of low carbon cities in North-East Asia and discussed potential future activities of NEA-LCCP in areas of information sharing, technical assistance, analytical studies and capacity building.
