Joint ESCAP - UIC Seminar on Facilitation and Costing of Railway Services along the Trans-Asian Railway
The Rio+20 Conference has resulted in increasing public and political support for railways thanks to the recognition of their lower environmental impact. However, the development of a strong and successful rail sector across the region is closely linked to the ability of railway organizations to (i) operate efficiently across borders and (ii) generate income sufficient to cover operating and maintenance costs as well as making provision to replace assets as they wear out.
ESCAP and the International Union of Railways (http://www.uic.org/) are organizing a joint seminar to foster discussion on these issues and propose ways to address them. The seminar is due to take place at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 9 to 11 December 2015.
