International Conference on Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities: the Urban Nexus

The International Conference was organized as the kick-off activity under the project “Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities: the Urban Nexus”, implemented by the German Agency for International Development (GIZ) and ESCAP, with financial support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project supports 10 cities in 6 countries: China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Over 120 participants from Asia comprising of senior level policy makers mainly from the city governments of the partner cities, representatives from regional networks and international and regional experts, gathered for the three-day Conference in Bangkok.

The objectives of the conference were to provide a forum for the presentation of the state-of-the-art urban nexus technologies and approaches by international experts, and present and discuss the initial urban nexus project proposals that had been developed by the participating cities. The international conference further provided an opportunity for the participants to debate on the urban nexus concept, and potential areas of application of the approach.
