Inter-regional workshop on good practices in gender statistics

5 Nov 2014 to 7 Nov 2014
Aguascalientes, Mexico

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) co-organized the workshop as part of a project aimed at strengthening national capacity to improve gender statistics - centered around regional frameworks and plans, by drawing on related global initiatives. By identifying good practices and reflecting on them, countries from each of the three regions can build on their existing strengths, and at the same time, their experiences can help other countries deal with similar challenges. There exists much diversity across the three regions in terms of country-specific economic/social/cultural contexts, stages in developing and implementing regional plans, and so on. The cross-fertilization of such diversity through the sharing of good practices would enable more meaningful and potentially rich solutions to capacity and data challenges and provide enhanced opportunity for mutual learning.

The objective of the workshop was to exchange good practices in integrating a gender perspective in statistics, with a special focus on the institutional environment and support for gender statistics and related organizational aspects.
