The United Nations ESCAP and the Statistical Research Institute, Statistics Korea co-hosted a Forum on Innovative Data Approaches to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from 31 May to 2 June, 2017 in Incheon, Republic of Korea. The Forum provided an opportunity for a diverse group of decision makers from member States in the Asia-Pacific region, ranging from statisticians to policy makers, to explore opportunities for utilizing big data and related data approaches in their jurisdictions to achieve SDGs. It also presented some of the key technological innovations that have revolutionized the role of data in decision-making and expanded on how these can be applied specifically to disaster management (SDG 1, 11, and 13), education (SDG 4), and transportation (SDG 9 and 11).
