Expert Group Meeting on Improving Maritime Transport Safety in the ESCAP region
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), is initiating a study on the “Improvement of Maritime Transport Safety in the ESCAP region”. The objective of the study is to develop policies and measures to enhance maritime transport safety in the ESCAP region, including safety policies and regulations, risk assessment, compliance, and monitoring.
As part of the implementation methodology for the study, ESCAP is planning to organize an Expert Group Meeting at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok on 2 September 2016. The meeting will review practices and challenges related to maritime transport safety and discuss possible policy measures to enhance maritime safety. The meeting will also create valuable networking opportunities among officials of the region responsible for addressing related issues in their respective countries.
