Citypreneurs Seoul 2019

1 Oct 2019
Seoul, Republic of Korea
Open meeting

Started in 2017, "Urban Innovation Challenge: Citypreneurs" is an international start-up platform that focuses on building the capacity of young entrepreneurs to offer innovative solutions that solve urban challenges and accelerate the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Citypreneurs Seoul 2019 was co-hosted by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, United Nations Development Programme, World Federation of United Nations Associations, World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization, Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Digital Foundation. The event was held at Jongno Tower in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on 1 October 2019.

Guided by citizen-generated data on areas they wanted to see their local government improve on, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year’s Seoul competition focused on three critical urban issues:

  • Healthy and inclusive ageing
  • Developing skills; and
  • Green production and consumption.

During the course of the competition, workshops, mentoring programs and tech sponsorships were provided to 30 selected semi-finalist teams.

The event also featured a policy dialogue consisting of two panels on (1) Strengthening the innovation ecosystem for entrepreneurship and the SDGs, and (2) Impact measurement and monitoring of start-ups for the SDGs.
