26 to 29 April 2022 | Open meeting

Upon requests from various North and Central Asia countries expressed during the 2nd ESCAP executive Training, ESCAP and IGCE jointly with the UNDP are organizing this second subregional training on GHG emissions inventories and Paris Agreement reporting requirement in the hybrid format (in person and online) from 26 to 29 April 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The training is designed for up to three technical experts who will be involved in developing national GHG emissions inventories and those who will be developing national MRV systems in their respective countries. The countries that can benefit from this training are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The training seminar will be based on the methodological framework and handbook for estimating greenhouse gas emissions and removals for individual categories or sub-categories and are grouped by 5 sectors: Energy; Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU); Agriculture; Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF); and Waste.

Enhancing the skills of national experts to develop greenhouse gas emissions inventories will assist member states to develop move to low-emissions energy systems and deployment of clean power generation and energy efficiency and to” unlock the potential for sectoral action to contribute to fulfilling and implementing national targets, particularly in emission-intensive sectors”[1]. The skills developed will also support further review and updates of the national determined communications and definition of more ambitious commitments.

Training programme and sessions

The training sessions are going to be organized as lectures for each sector followed by a discussion to enhance the understanding of the training material.

Each training session will provide a quiz for the participants to respond to gauge their level of understanding the training material. The trainees will be able to send follow up questions to each lecturer that will provide further guidance. After completion of all assignments, the trainees will receive a certificate for participation.
