The objective of the report launch was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, good practices and lessons learnt with respect to the progressive implementation of Beijing+25 commitments in ASEAN countries, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, promising practices and progressive initiatives on addressing women’s unpaid care and domestic work was shared and further discussed as the report launch served as a forum for policy dialogue, capacity building and networking for stakeholders from relevant key ministries and national women’s machineries in ASEAN countries. The discussions and recommendations informed the priority actions related to women’s economic empowerment to be undertaken by ASEAN countries, ESCAP and development partners in 2021 and beyond.
The launch event brought together representatives from ASEAN member states, particularly from the ACW and ACWC. Representatives from the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) and the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Micros, Small and Medium Enterprises (ACCMSME) was also invited to participate. It further included representatives from the United Nations, experts, professionals, and representatives of civil society organizations working towards the realization of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, in particular in the area of women’s economic empowerment.
