The daycare center was created by an occupational therapist in 2011. The center offers a wide variety of activities for older persons who arrive at the center in the morning and choose how they will spend the day. The activities - as varied as cooking classes, baking bread, singing karaoke, walking in the swimming pool, having massage, and casino - as well as the physical structure of the center, are designed to motivate older persons to use their bodies to their own abilities, and the workers of the center will help only after the elderly tried to perform the physical function. Having an in-house "currency" to "pay for" certain activities (e.g. having a massage) and to "earn" some currencies by completing certain tasks (e.g. a quiz on the wall, or a physical exercise) is one of the ways to motivate the users to challenge themselves in their mental and physical abilities at their own levels. While desiring to perform better at the activities that they enjoy, many elders have improved or regained their abilities to carry out a variety of everyday actions such as walking and drying their laundries.
