Working as guides in national parks (은퇴노인 숲해설가)

From 2012 to 2013, with funding from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, private companies offered a training programme for older persons to become a guide for public forests and national parks. After acquiring the license issued by the Korea Forest Service, older persons could work as guides. Local senior clubs were the main link for older persons to these training and job opportunities.

Local tour guide "Tour Talker" (투어토커)

Older persons (over 60) who have lived in a certain locality for a long time are hired as tour guides to give information on tourist spots, local restaurants, accommodations, etc, through both on-line and off-line services. The project was first undertaken in 2009 on a trial basis through collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Namhae County government with 16 elderly participants, and since then spread to other parts of the country.
