According to the “Final Report on the Disaster-related Deaths” by the Reconstruction Agency of Japan (August 21, 2012) and “Mainichi Newspaper Japan” (August 22, 2012),

  • There were a total of 1,632 disaster-related deaths till March 31st, 2012.

  • Among the 1,632 deaths, 1,263 cases were reported in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures.

  • About 90% of 1,263 disaster-related deaths were elderly people aged 70 and older.
