The project was initiated by the Norwegian research institute SINTEF and the university NTNU, Trondheim, Norway to establish a database on the movement of the elderly to predict and prevent their fall. The sensor is worn as a belt and is used to predict a person's fall and to alert him or her to sit or lie down. When the person falls, the alarm system will be connected to social media such as Facebook to let people around the person know the situation. The project has brought together 11 project partners and has established the world's largest database containing information on the movements of the elderly just before and just after they suffer a fall.
