To promote access to health services in rural areas, the 2013 project sent doctors to rural areas to conduct regular check-up and other health services. Typically, people went to city hospitals or other large hospitals and waited in long lines to receive treatment in China, but the project sent geriatric doctors on bike to rural areas where access to health care was limited. The project also contributed to developing other innovative practices, such as a performance-based pay system that linked doctors' salaries to their performance at work and the patient's feedback, and a mentorship between city and rural doctors on improving the professional skills of rural doctors.
