Press Liaison

Information Officers from the United Nations Information Services (UNIS) are available to assist journalists in their coverage of United Nations activities. During normal working hours, between 7.30 AM and 3.45 PM, Mondays through Fridays, correspondents' requests can be attended to by UNIS staff. There are also answering services available, so please kindly leave a message if you call after office hours and we will get back to you. Contact Tel: (+662) 288 1866-9, Fax: (+662) 288 1052, E-mail: unisbkk.unescap@un.org

Press Suite

Working space for journalists is provided at the Press Suite located on the ground floor of the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC). The Press Suite, which offers spacious rooms and an attached coffee bar, is equipped with computers, typewriters and telecom facilities for journalists to use. Internet facilities are available at the Internet Café on the first floor of the UNCC.

The Press Suite and the UNIS office, on the second floor of the secretariat building, are the focal points for distribution of press releases and other relevant information to journalists covering important conferences and meetings at the UNCC. Press conferences are held from time to time in the Theatre opposite the Press Suite.

Radio and television services

The UNCC has special booths overlooking its two major conference halls (Conference Room 1 and 2) for radio journalists to observe and record the proceedings. Television camera crews will be provided with convenient locations in the conference halls to facilitate high quality coverage. Television crews, in particular, are advised to arrive early for any event they wish to cover in order to ensure smooth security clearance of their equipment prior to entry into the United Nations premises. Informing UNIS staff well in advance will also help in speeding up security and other clearances.

Media Accreditation

Bona fide representatives of the mass media-press, photo, radio, television and film-will be accredited for coverage of all announced United Nations events to be held at either the UNCC or the United Nations Secretariat Building. Accreditation, which will enable easy entry to the United Nations premises, can be obtained by filling out a form and presenting a letter of assignment from your Editor/Bureau Chief and/or a photocopy of your valid professional press card.

Please note that no double accreditation for different capacities is allowed (e.g. press and delegate or press and NGO delegate).

The UNESCAP Press Card can be picked up at the UNIS office once the forms have been filled in. You are requested to come in person to take a photo and collect the Press Card.
