UNIS/Bangkok
informs the people of Asia and Pacific about the work and activities
of UNESCAP and the United Nations. Among its many duties and responsibilities
are to:
- Publish and distribute, throughout the
region, press releases, feature articles, newsletters and other
information materials on United Nations and UNESCAP programmes,
projects and meetings
- Liaise with the local and international
media to strive for maximum coverage of such programmes; to
organize exhibitions to commemorate special United Nations observances
and days such as the United Nations Day (24 October),
World Environment Day (5 June) and International Women's
Day (8 March)
- Assist educators, government and non-governmental
organizations and special projects, by providing such information
products and services as speakers, publications and audio-visual
materials on United Nations and ESCAP activities and programmes
- Liaise with the other UN Information
Centers (UNICs) throughout the region to disseminate information
about/produced by UNESCAP
- Distribute materials
from the Department of Public Information, New York, in its
seven constituent countries
- Provide library
and information technology services through its United Nations
UNESCAP Library
